For those who’ve been following the blog for a while, you remember how this Sailor Hawkeye game went the first time around. My friend Abby had done her own version of Sailor Black Widow and asked me reprise Sailor Hawkeye for her Sailor Avengers team. Since this team was veering a little more away from the traditional Sailor Moon fuku, I decided to have a little fun with it and make Version II to make hers.
The really cool part was that I was able to reuse parts of not only Hawkeye Version I but also a piece of my Sailor Pluto and even some bits of my Star Wars costumes. The skirt was the one big new part of the costume but thankfully I am a fabric hoarder and still had enough of the purple bow fabric to use for the skirt roll.
Thank you to David Harback for the photography on the majority of these and to Rich and Strange for the photography on the captioned one! They were both wonderful to work with when we did this shoot at Awesome Con! (The con thing is also why there’s an invisible arrow thing going on…)

How much do I love Kris Anka’s new Spider-Woman design? So. Freaking. Much. I’ve been a fan of Jessica Drew since I first really got to know her in the New Avengers comics. Her old costume was well known and all but there’s something about the street level versatility of this jacket and glasses that just calls to me, y’know? Needless to say, it went on the ‘must cosplay’ list immediately.
Oh and also? If you’re not reading this book, you are doing yourself a disservice. Go pick it up already.
Thank you to Justin for doing a shoot with me at Awesome Con this year!

Expect to see some upgrades to this costume in the future including some appropriately colored boots. (No glove changes though. I like being able to use my phone.)
It’s no secret that we adore Her Universe around here and therefore it’s only fitting that we take a moment today to celebrate their 5th Anniversary! This is a company that has done a TON for the geek ladies out there in such a short time and I am forever grateful that Ashley Eckstein took the initiative to start the company five years ago. My first piece was the red Padmé Nouveau t-shirt which I purchased at Dragon*Con 2010 and since then, I haven’t looked back. It’s amazing to me that not only can we geek girls now buy cute shirts to express our fandom but that we can also buy awesome things like cardigans, lightsaber skirts, and freaking X-Wing pilot dresses.
To celebrate the event, Her Universe is partying in style. 300 orders placed today will randomly receive a gift certificate valued between $5 and $500. The Star Wars Burnout Tee, ESB Poster Tee, and the Manga Hoodie are all being rereleased. Finally, there will be a livestream event running from about 10am to 5pm PST.
Below is just a selection of the many many many Her Universe products we’ve featured over the years. (And by selection, I mean the ones I happened to have pictures of on my phone.) Check out our Her Universe tag and see all of their cool pieces we’ve featured on the blog over the last three years. Do you have a favorite Her Universe piece? Sound off in the comments and tell us!
Star Wars Rebels is back on Saturday! Or at least it’ll be sort of back with the premiere of the double episode ‘Siege of Lothal’. I saw it at Celebration in April and HOLY HELL IS IT GOOD. (For a good time, check out my twitter on Saturday night because it will be 90% flailing.)
Given the event, it seemed only natural that my outfit today honored this proud forthcoming occasion. And just like the show, it’s all about Captain Hera Syndulla.
Thank you to my friend Maggie for being a good sport and taking these pictures for me so I didn’t have to self timer like usual.
