Awesome Con is this weekend and it’s going to be totally awesome! As you may have guessed from the image above, I’m taking it easy on the cosplay front this convention but I will be rocking some cute Her Universe fashion on Sunday to compensate. I’ll be roaming around the convention almost from the start on Friday and covering the con for Tosche Station. If you see me, please come say hi.
The two places you’ll definitely be able to find me will be on Sunday on the two panels I’m running. At 11am in Room 145B, I’ll be chatting about Diversity in Pop Culture with Amy Ratcliffe and Esther of Fantom Comics. Then later at 3:30pm in Room 156, it’ll be all things Star Wars as I discuss the State of the Galaxy with John Morton, Amy Ratcliffe, Anna Mitchell, and Jay Shah. If you’re still not convinced, we’ll have plenty of giveaways courtesy of Del Rey including tons of the Samplers they had at Celebration and copies of all of their thus far published books.
Spider-Gwen is everywhere and we love it! We’re also digging WeLoveFine’s brand new Spider-Gwen collection! They’ve got a great section of tops including a sleeveless hooded tank, a hoodie, and a cardigan that I’m craving. There’s also a trio of really great leggings where you can tell the designers put some thought into the image placement. Any of these would look great in a Marvel fangirl’s closet.
It’ll be a little while before you can get your hands on these pieces (tops are estimated to ship in July and the leggings in September) but you can go ahead and preorder! Of course, if you don’t want to wait, they’ve also got a ton of t-shirts to pick from.
I’m hardly the first person to want to do a Disney/Star Wars mashup costume but there was something that just felt right about making Mulan into a Jedi Knight. Being Jedi Mulan all day at Star Wars Celebration was a fantastic feeling. A ton of little girls came up and wanted to get a picture with me.
I’m super grateful to Saf for doing an impromptu photoshoot with me. It was literally at the end of the convention, we were all super tired, and yet she was still willing to shoot with me.
Jedi Mulan: Bria
What was almost as fun as wearing the costume was designing it. Several pages of my sketchbook are filled with different designs that pulled more from the Disney side or the Jedi side but I’m really happy with how the final product looked. There’s nothing I would’ve changed. Well except for maybe having an actual Mushu.
Where do I even start.
Yowamushi Pedal is my sports anime hell and I am in so deep, I can never leave. And I figure, I get one sports anime post, I get that single, and what better way to spend it than on my brilliant, beautiful, brittle idiot son’s birthday. I’m gonna tie a freakin’ bike anime scrunchie to my purse like it’s a designer scarf and celebrate this thing in his trademark grumpy blue bunny style.
So happy birthday, Imaizumi Shunsuke. You’re the ace of my heart always!!

Let’s cross that finish line together.
Did anyone need us? Just look for the two girls yelling at each other about the New Mutants movie announcement. We’re all about the classic and the new and the new new, but our forever girl Dani Moonstar will always be the ultimate in kickpunching and love. A style salute to her in valkyria, to urban casual leathers, to throwing down for a full round in the Sienkiewicz demon bear arena of dreams.
