We’re continuing our celebration of Catching Fire’s release this week with some Hunger Games posts. Today, we’re asking ourself ‘What Would Katniss Everdeen Wear?’
This one was actually kind of fun because there’s a built in mechanism for approaching this. The Capitol gives each tribute a stylist for the Hunger Games and Cinna is paired with Katniss. Katniss herself is very much not inclined towards wearing fancy clothing or the pomp and circumstance that comes with it all. So almost all of the looks included here are either looks I could see her wearing during the pre-Games, the Victory Tour, or during events when she’s back in District 12 and yet needs to be presentable.
We’ll start with this gorgeous Christian Siriano dress.
One thing that Katniss has always had has been a great looking leather jacket to wearing while hunting. This 3.1 Phillip Lim one looks like a fashionable upgrade for it.
Both of these pieces by Daniel Vosovic and Anna Sui respectively feel like something might be a bit of a compromise between Cinna and Katniss when it comes to wearing things around the house in her District. They’re casual enough to remind people that she’s from one of the outer districts without looking too sloppy.
We’re flying straight back to Westeros and the nations beyond as we ask what yet another Game of Thrones character would wear from today’s high fashions! Today, we’re focusing on Daenerys Stormborn of House Targaryen; Khaleesi and Queen of the Seven Kingdoms and a heck of a lot of other titles I won’t repeat here because I’m not Ser Jorah.
Dany is one of the characters with a more varied look. We first see her as a princess in exile, then as a Khaleesi, and then Queen without a country who fights in whatever arena she must for her people. It’s resulted in us seeing her in many different fabrics and styles which means this post was fun to pull together without the limitations of colours and/or plunging necklines.
We’ll start with this effortlessly flowing dress by Zuhair Murad.
While we didn’t get to see the typical Qartheen gowns on the screen, this dress by Reem Acra certainly invokes the asymmetrical bare-breasted look that makes them so distinctive.
Of course, we can’t neglect her heritage as the heir to House Targaryen with these two looks by Vionnet and Valentino in its colours.
Us? Impatiently tapping our feet while we wait for it to be April so we can have a new season of Game of Thrones? And tragically lamenting the wait for The Winds of Winter? It’d be pointless to lie and say that we weren’t. That means that it’s time for another post where we ask what would one of the noble houses wear from our high fashion lines if they were a part of this universe.
This week, we’re taking a look at House Tyrell and especially at the Queen herself, Margaery Tyrell. Therefore, there’s going to be a lot of Tyrell green along with some Margaery blue and plunging necklines.
We’ll start with a simple green dress by Zac Posen
This next dress by Valentino is something that I could see a younger Margaery being attracted to especially given the colour.
And of course, what would a fashion post be for one of the most powerful houses in Westeros without a little Elie Saab in their signature colour?
Apparently we like to play favourites around here so the White Queen herself, Emma Frost, is the subject of another fashion inspiration post as we once again ask ‘What Would Emma Frost Wear?’
The answer seemed to jump right out at us from the Resort 2014 collection of designer Zuhair Murad. The Lebanese fashion designer opened his collection with ten different looks, all in white. While our favorite HBIC has been wearing a lot of black lately in the pages of Uncanny X-men, it’s only a matter of time before she returns to her trademarked white clothes and takes a nice long vacation in some fancy resort town to try and ignore that the Avengers are still trying to arrest her.
We’ll start off a somewhat simple dress with interesting side detailings and sleeves that could easily make this dress appealing to the former White Queen.
Emma’s never been one to shy away from a smartly cut pair of trousers (just look at her Gen X teaching days) and so both of these looks could be right up her alley, especially the one on the right if she’s teaching or has business matters to attend to.
