Yep. I’m First Order trash forever now. But heyyyy as long as I can keep rocking this sort of style, I’m cool with it. (And yes, that is my jacket from when we did our punk trash First Order fashion.)

I fell in love with Aphra the very minute I saw the cover of Darth Vader #3. That was about two years ago and I’ve yet to find a reason not to love this sassy, rogue archaeologist who managed to survive working for Darth Vader. (Just barely but it still counts!) It means the freaking world to me that I have a character to cosplay in the galaxy far, far away who actually looks like me and who I love whole-heartedly. I will forever be indebted to Kieron Gillen and Salvador Larroca for creating her.
I’m especially excited because she got her very own comic book which debuted today! (And all of you should go read it ASAP!) And hey, if you need proof of how much I love Aphra, I’ve made upgrades to the costume since first making it back in July and I already have other upgrades planned AND I even want to make more versions of her various costumes because she has so many. Aphra is MY GIRL and if you need proof… well… this happened entirely by accident.

Double thank you to Heather of Zhobot for venturing forth to a random parking garage with me during what was decidedly winter so we could get these pictures!
Happy N7 Day! If you follow my Twitter account, you know that I’ve fallen fast and hard for Mass Effect. Given what a fan I am of Knights of the Old Republic, I’ve known for ages that I’d likely dig these games but never had a gaming system to play them on… or at least I didn’t until this spring. And now I’m an addict. When I die from the Mass Effect 3 feels, just shoot my body into space from the Normandy. It’s fine, everything’s fine.

Thank you to Heather over at Zhobot for the pictures!
By the way, I am IN LOVE with this cardigan. It’s excellent quality and incredibly comfortable. The N7 bit on the chest is embroidered on and even the buttons have the N7 detail on them. Oh and it has pockets! 10/10, would highly recommend.
Miguel and Tulio! Tulio and Miguel! It has probably been at least two years since Abby first came to me and said “Hey Bria: you need to watch The Road to El Dorado because the two main characters are basically us.” She was not wrong. So we genderswapped them, finally found a convention where we had free space in our schedules, and this happened.
Probably the best thing about doing these costumes was how excited everyone was when they looked at us and went “wait… are you two doing… yessssss” when they figured it out.

Thank you to our amazing bro Heather of Zhobot for taking these magical pictures of our faces doing the most ridiculous things.
Costumes just call to you sometimes and this one definitely did the minute I saw ‘The Magical Place’ episode of Agents of SHIELD. In the episode, Skye ends up pretending to be Melinda may to get what she needs for a mission. (May even approves of her choice in jacket.) I’d always intended to costume as Skye because I not only love her character but was thrilled to finally costume as someone in the MCU with a racial makeup like my own. And then when I found the (almost) screen accurate jacket… yeah it was meant to be.
I got to wear this around MAGFest and Katsucon this year and had a blast especially when people either a) got that I was Skye or b) asked if I was Agent May since, y’know, that was sort of the point. Thank you to my friend Aaron for letting me borrow his Winter Soldier BFG for a few pictures that were a bit more Season 2 inspired.
I’ve said it before (as recently as Tuesday) but I’m happy to say it again: Skye is so important to me as a biracial woman who rarely gets to see herself represented in television let alone in the MCU. It’s still kinda amazing to me that there’s finally an MCU character that I can cosplay as and not worry about someone saying that I shouldn’t because I don’t look enough like her. And again, this was a costume where I got to be Skye being May. Perfect. So yeah. Chloe Bennet and Ming-Na Wen? Keep being awesome in Agents of SHIELD. You’re both so inspiring and rad as hell.
