So I totally bat for Team Blazer and if we want to drop more pop culture references, I would be Putting A Blazer On It to the tune of this. So when it comes to styling tees, I take a note from my comic book fashion buddy Quintavius Quirinius Quire.
Here’s a second take on the Marvel NYCC tee; check out the first time here! Also: I love clear lucite / perspex heels on things.
ROUND TWO: I NEED TO GO TO WORK BUT IT’S STILL CASUAL DAYTIME!!
Top: Marvel NYCC
Pleated Skirt: Zara
Asymmetric Blazer: yesstyle.com
Heeled Oxfords: Simone Rocha inspos
I wore those heeled oxfords in NYC and some sassy gay dude totally complimented me on them. Gold star.
But no, seriously, I really dig Quentin’s style persona. I hope that one day he grows up into a little Yohji Yamamoto and Rick Owens hottie and that Jamie McKelvie will draw his adventures and limitless asymmetric haircut possibilities. I will talk about this one day.
I know, I know. Another Megarinri Inspired Outfit. But I just can’t help it! In honour of the new tv show Arrow totally rocking and the weather taking a turn for brrrr cold, today’s outfit is Megarinri’s Green Arrow! I’ve been wanting to put this outfit together and take pictures for ages. If you check out her original sketch, I’m actually wearing the same coat she used as inspiration. It was an impulse online buy and I haven’t regretted it once because this coat is just FABULOUS. You can never have too many fabulous coats.
This outfit is probably the one most directly copied from one of her sketches that I will ever do, but when you have both a coat and a purse that could be dead ringers for the sketch, it’s so hard not to! Also, please forgive the slight self indulgent shot of the Speedy Bandoulière below. It’s my baby and I just can’t help showing her off to the world.
Gold Scarf: Kenneth Cole
Khaki Skirt: Zara
Boots: Me Too
Purse: Louis Vuitton Speedy Bandoulière in Damier Ebène
Tees? Not my thing. But when a sizable amount of comic book wear comes in the form of my age old nemesis, a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do. Which is essentially customising a tee by cutting it up. Boy, I’m just a regular superhero aren’t I.
As the “I Survived The Battle of New York” was a ~special exclusive~ from NYCC, and NYCC broke me as a person BUT IN A REALLY GOOD WAY, this will be a two-parter on How To Style A Tee When You Don’t Really Wear Jeans And Tees Are Not Your Thing Okay.
ROUND ONE: IT’S CASUAL DAYTIME AND I NEED A QUICKIE OUTFIT!!
Top: Marvel NYCC
Pleated Skirt: Zara
Belt: Forever 21
Tall Boots: BCBG
Captain Marvel Bracelet: Nara Rouge
Quickie Fashion Advice Time With Lin: Teeshirts don’t have to be same old, same old. Give crew necks a touch-up by cutting a wider neckline; cut basic sleeves at an angle for insta interest. And you don’t need to fancy it up, either — a quick way to navigate around this is to flip the bird at old adages, and just tuck it in with a skirt or a pair of skinny jeans. Add heels or ballet flats, and a funky belt. Voila!
Special heart-shaped thanks for the patent Coach wristlet because it was a birthday gift from Mandy, my favourite asshole. Whenever I use it, I think fondly of the time we almost died of alcohol poisoning and comic books.
Chiffon Insert Vest: Zara
Lace Top; Tights: Forever 21
High-Waisted Booty Shorts: American Apparel
Winged Sandals: Vivienne Westwood x Melissa
Gold Bracers; Necklace; Belt: Forever 21
So check it out, somebody’s got neptune hair. And what better way to show it off than to… put it into a bun so nobody can see it?? Alternately, just channel oceanic royalty by putting wings on your feet, showing some skin, and flirting with ALL THE BLONDES.
For those keeping score at home, this is good ol’ retro king of the sea. I like to think we are all brothers and sisters of the booty short clan.
ALRIGHT LET ME PLAY YOU OUT
In anticipation of The Avengers release, I decided to pull together some outfits that were inspired by characters from the film, but that I could also go to class in without looking like I was trying to walk the runway. Sadly my Captain America earrings didn’t make it there in time, but that didn’t stop me from throwing my best salute!
