It’s a new year so I’m resolving to get back to asking just would different characters wear if they could wear our high fashion looks? A little while back, one of our readers suggested that we take a look at what Imperial citizens living on Coruscant during the height of the Emperor’s reign might wear. While one of our very first WWXW posts looked at the Imperials, this was a different slant and a challenge I was definitely willing to take especially since there have been tons of new collections to pull from since.
The upper levels of Coruscant were definitely populated by those with money and as for those sections that weren’t? They probably weren’t paying too much attention to galactic fashion anyways. Silhouettes got slimmer and everything would have taken on a generally darker and more drab look that would match the Emperor and the military’s uniforms. If colors were introduced, they’d be dark purples and deep reds and occasionally navy. There would be lots of high necklines and more military style cuts. This was definitely not the Coruscant of the Republic. It’s important to note though that darker colors don’t automatically mean for a boring fashion scene. The designers would have simply.. adapted.
We’ll start with this all black look by Zuhair Murad.
High necked jackets would be aplenty like these by Alexander McQueen and Just Cavalli.
The costumes in the Hunger Games are incredible visual treats especially once we arrive at the Capitol. One of the especially fun characters to watch on screen is Effie Trinket. From that first bright fuchsia dress to that pale pink brocade one to the one entirely covered in freaking butterflies, she never wears anything boring.
There’s a chance that the fashions of our world might not be able to keep up with Effie. She’s one of the few who would might have to tone down her style for our world. Let’s think of these more like ‘inspired by’ looks.
We’ll start with very three dimension dress by Alexandre Vauthier.
Next up, there’s this Zac Posen with a gorgeous fabric that would be right up her alley.
Due to recent circumstances, the pilots of Rogue and Wraith Squadrons have definitely been on my mind lately. We’ve been doing this for long enough now that you know how this story ends: I started asking myself just what would the ladies of Rogue and Wraith wear if they were dressing from the high fashion runways of our planet?
We’ll start with this look from BCBG.
And then this casually elegant look in Wraith grey from Ralph Lauren.
I’ll admit: this ZAC Zac Posen dress is in here because it’s flight suit orange.
When we weren’t paying attention, we accidentally started a ‘Capable Ladies of Star Wars’ edition of our What Would X Wear feature. Honestly, we just trip into these things. Anyways, when we put out a call for character suggestions last month, my fellow Tosche Station writer Nanci suggested that I do some for the Capable Ladies of the Expanded Universe and so it just seemed natural that Mirax Terrik would be the subject of today’s post.
The daughter of a smuggler and a capable entrepreneur in her own rights, Mirax Terrik kicks some butt in multiple arenas. She also knows how to dress for the occasion and pull off a slinky dress with the best of them. In other words, she has a pretty excellent wardrobe somewhere aboard the Pulsar Skate.
We’ll start relatively casual yet oh so chic with this outfit by Carolina Herrera.
What you really need to know though is that she can definitely rock a fabulous gown for the right occasion. Like these two dresses by Alexandre Vautheir and Versace. (Just try and tell me that Mirax doesn’t have great legs.)
There’s something about Mirax that says she’d rock a good jumpsuit just like this Jason Wu one.
Unbowed. Unbent. Unbroken. Yeah, we can dig that motto. We might belong to House Lannister and House Stark here at White Hot Room but we both have a healthy respect for the Martells down in Dorne. (Arianne and the Sand Snakes: BAMFs or BAMFs?)
Dorne is a hot land, the exact opposite of Winterfell so it makes sense that their fashion senses would be quite different. Their sigil and colours: the sun and spear and red and orange, say a lot about their house as does their motto. I considered the Sand Snakes (Oberyn Martell’s bastard daughters) when I made this post as they are members of the house in everything but name in a way that most bastards are not. Colour was something that I definitely paid attention to with the house colours, black, white, and gold but it was not something that I let limit my choices. Many of the looks have a casual ease to them while others definitely show a bit more skin, something I think the Martells would be right at home doing, (Margaery Tyrell, eat your heart out.)
We’ll start out with this dress by Prabal Gurung’s Fall Ready-to-Wear 2013 show. There’s a fabulous ease to this dress while still looking chic that would make it ideal for Dorne.
If any house is going to be able to work a strapless peplum top and capri pant, it is absolutely the Martells. Both of these looks by Christian Siriano would be perfect fits. I could especially see Nymeria or Sarella rocking these.
Speaking of the Sand Snakes, just try and tell us that this red dress by Reem Acra isn’t right up their alley.
