Okay so you just THINK that you’ve seen this costume before but NOT REALLY. No but seriously, it is. Previously on WHR, I borrowed most of Lin’s costume at the last minute. This year, for the A-Force shoot that one of our friends was planning, I decided to make my own jacket. And avoid her Canadian torture device of a fleece sweatshirt in Atlanta during summer. After all, how could I not want to make a Miss. America costume after that issue of A-Force #1?

Thanks to all of the other ladies who showed up for the A-Force photoshoot and putting up with a very enthusiastic and slightly bossy impromptu director. (That wasn’t me nope not me.)
Stealth cosplay week? It’s kinda what we do. Our forever fave Jamie McKelvie always kicks it up in urban superhero style, and America Chavez of the Young Avengers is today’s stars&stripes inspo.
“Killin’ It” Snapback + Old Glory Cardigan + Chain Spike Earrings
Star T-Shirt Dress + Varsity Jacket w/ Hoodie + Cropped Hoodie
Freebird Boot + Wet Look Pocket Leggings + Levi’s Embellished Shorts
Earth’s Mightiest Heroines! The Avengers that no villain can defeat! Not even those villains up at the top.
I was originally tapped for this shoot back when the fabulous Socies (aka, She-Hulk) organized it last fall. She asked me to take part in the shoot and I was happy to do so. Unfortunately, I had to withdraw when I wasn’t able to make the convention. (Wait for it.) When the planets aligned for me less than a week before con, Lin decided that I needed to be in the shoot again. And also that she hated me and enjoyed my pain because oh god this costume was NOT meant for Atlanta heat. So she threw her Miss America jacket and fuzzy hoodie at me and told me I had to do the costume. That’s how we do it here at White Hot Room: clothesline each other into costumes.
All credit for the pictures of the group goes to the wonderful Danny Hunter! You can see the entirety of the shoot over at his Facebook. The ones of just myself and Jenny as Kate Bishop were taken for us by our friend Maggie.
So this happened.
Of course, it happened the night right before Ottawa Comic Con because why not, that’s why. But even if I wasn’t already long sold on America Chavez’s kickpunching alt urban attitude and a personal lifelong motto to also PUNCH EVERYONE, my well-documented elemental weakness to a hoodie+jacket combo clotheslined me right into it. Besides, this is basically my winknudge at Bria to once again be the elegant and classy Kate Bishop that she is — cosplay sisterhood high fives, all around.
As always, tip of the hat to Kieron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie for their stellar work on Young Avengers.
What’s that? Your beloved ladies have teamed up for a fashion shoot in honour of Young Avengers being relaunched this week? Indeed we have! What you’re seeing is actually the result of separate photoshoots on our respective sides of the border, but the intent was there nonetheless.
This is actually the start of a miniseries we’ll be doing over the next few weeks — Marvel NOW! is launching some books that we’re pretty darn psyched about, so we thought we’d honour their releases with outfits inspired by members of the team. As always, you’ll see our personal touches, i.e. Bria is a totally classy dame and Lin is just going to be this douchebag trainwreck. Enjoy.
This Week: Young Avengers by Kieron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie!
MISS AMERICA
Lin: Everybody has an elemental weakness to Jamie McKelvie designs. Urban savvy brow-quirked assholes are a fashion template close to my stupid dumb heart, so here’s to checking off the box next to ‘America Chavez’ and her super rad kicks. While her redesign is pretty much the current gold standard in street utilitarian, I’m on this fancy hoodie + blazer twist with a headfake toward her creative team’s British roots.
KID LOKI
Bria: I started by grabbing more or less all of the gold jewelry I own. I think only an extra pair of earrings and a headband were put back. Obviously I wanted to stick to his green/black/gold colour palette because, y’know, visual cues. My other goal was to use layers while simultaneously keeping things sleek and chic. With bonus ridiculous faces because how could I do a Loki outfit without the L-pose or asking Thor why the people I’m contacting via my Phone Of I are calling me a troll.

Coming Soon: Uncanny X-Force by Sam Humphries and Ron Garney! Also coming soon: more of our dumb faces. Don’t worry, we just got started on this magical train ride.
