What up guys, it’s (chiha voice) magical girl Monday.
There’s something so heartrendingly vast and beautiful and good about Macross Frontier that will always call me home, space home, and when a friend is like, hey photos?? I’m always, heck yeah photos. So, thank you Bryan Lee Cruz Photography for taking the time on a gorgeous morning during this past Katsucon to set me against a sky so big and bright and blue it makes me feel like crying, like stupid baby princess Alto tears crying, which is possibly the most relevant kind of crying possible.

When you’re in a loooong term relationship with a video game series and you just love all of the characters so much but you especially love Visas and her design… you have to make the costume at some point. I finally got a KOTOR group for Celebration and Dragon Con this year and because I’m an overachiever, I decided to get the costume done early for Katsucon and approved by the 501st. Both goals achieved.
Getting to see pictures from this shoot was doubly awesome given that I only had a very vague idea how the costume looked while I was wearing it. (Before you ask, my vision in this costume is not great and I could mostly just see shapes and needed a seeing-eye trooper.) There are a few minor fixes I’m hoping to do to the costume before Celebration but otherwise, I’m really happy with how it looks!

Once again, thank you to my amazing British Clone Anna for the photography at Katsucon! She is always amazing to work with and doubly so given my inability to see.
So a very long time ago, Abby made me watch Avatar: The Last Airbender. It went only sort of well because Abby also decided to start the show when I was already half asleep but I liked what I remembered of it. Essentially ever since then, we’ve been trying to find a time to cosplay as Mai and Ty Lee because they are basically us in a nutshell. Several years ago, we ended up doing their beach outfits at Dragon Con but have always wanted to do the costumes properly. The problem always came down to how Mai’s a great winter con costume and Ty Lee’s a great summer con costume and we always dragged our feet on picking a con where one of us would be miserable.
And then the Fire Nation attacked. Actually no wait: the stars aligned. My friend Tini Howard was cleaning out her cosplay closet, sold me her Mai costume, and Abby basically went “JUST TELL ME WHAT CON” as soon as I told her I’d bought it. AND THEN THE STARS ALIGNED EVEN FURTHER because Katsu this year was actually reasonably warm so Abby didn’t freeze. What I’m saying is that this was meant to be.

Thank you to my amazing British Clone Anna for the photography at Katsucon!
In case you thought I was kidding about Mai and Ty Lee basically being us, there was very little acting involved in these pictures.
We’re in the week leading up to Katsucon, an anime convention in National Harbor, MD (February 17-19), and we’re totally ready (not actually ready) to bring this. (Bria is ready. Lin is not.) But look for us in the following, and feel free to come up and say hello!
How many Space Dates? Every single one of them.
(We wanted an actual space date look, and so here we are.)
