Important Question: So iwaoi cheerleaders, would Oikawa or Iwaizumi be the flyer?
(ANSWER: IN ANY POSITION IWAIZUMI PROBABLY DROPS OIKAWA ON PURPOSE FOR BEING AN ASS AND THAT IS WHAT’S REAL AND BEAUTIFUL.)
This is basically how every great (terrible) idea starts, and here we are at the end of that particular sports anime journey. I love swapping, I love a good cheersquad, and I love love love this beautiful mint aesthetic that can’t stop reaching for the stars, and I’m so happy my friend Mia came along with me to rule this court.

Macross Frontier is the series that completes me.
I still have so many feelings about this show that I can’t articulate so I’ll just funnel them all into elaborate stage concert combat outfits ha ha ha and here we are. This particular orange number is from the Macross F Music Clip Collection and continues the dubious tradition of a new outfit for every Katsucon — afterall, the upcoming blue-ray release has only added to the potential lineup, and we’re happy to oblige.
To my dismay, running out of time means it’s not quite as polished as it should be, but that just means a little bit more time and my Sheryl Nome and I can debut these properly!!
Want more Macross Frontier cosplay? We sent off Alto Saotome into battle for one last time in Sheryl and Ranka’s Sayonara no Tsubasa finale stage combat outfits at last year’s Katsucon!
Persona 2 makes me want to lie down and cry, which means it’s probably on my cosplay bucket list of 90’s golden era PSX JRPGs and I like it a whole lot.
Heather and I have been talking about a Persona 2 group since the dawn of video game time, and we were gonna make it happen or die trying. I love these stupid games so much, and it killed me that I haven’t been able to pull it off yet because I spent the last billion years of my life trying to (unsuccesfully) do Eikichi Mishima’s dumb wig instead. So when she mentioned that a few of her buddies were getting a group together for Katsucon, I whispered hell yea to the heavens and ironed creases into my pretty boy antagonist bestie pants and switched to Jun Kurosu.
Needless to say, a huge heartshaped thank you to all my cosplay buddies who welcomed me into this group — it means a lot to me that this finally happened, and I only wish we could have had more time on The Other Side together!!

We’re in the last days leading up to Katsucon, an anime convention in National Harbor, MD (February 14-16), and we’re totally hyped about the costumes we have planned this year. We’ll be bringing the following with us, so if you see us, feel free to come up and say hello!
Morning: We meet up with our Game of Thrones buddies as two of the sisters from House Martell
Afternoon: Going our separate video game ways with Persona 2 and Dance Central
Evening: Bria joins her Saints Row group; Lin gets into the giant robot!! i.e. lifesize Eva cockpit funtimes
Morning: Lin and her Sheryl Nome will be doing the Nyan x 2 Music Clip outfits; Bria is back with another Saints Row outfit
Afternoon: Bria pairs up with her Ania Solo for some Legacy shenanigans along with some other Star Wars folks
Evening: We’ll both be joining our Persona 4 group for the Midnight Hour!
Macross Frontier is pretty much all of my hopes and dreams as filtered through this ideal anime future. There is seriously so much I have to say about this series, except it just comes out in sparkly rainbow showers and excited hand waving and the feeling of being utterly magical. Love and justice hard fought and won by giant space robots and pop idol singers? I’m forever on board with this.
There is still not enough heart-shaped gratitude to Abby for taking my hand and singing with me as my galactic fairy. We picked their Valkyrie outfits from the second movie, Sayonara no Tsubasa, because we just can’t pass up the chance to
claws down face and cry about sending Alto to battle ha ha ha wear magical girl outfits with outrageous bustles and shared finale medleys.
And, of course, a huge thanks to our photographer, Lionel, for being amazing and just generally as excited as we were. When somebody asks you to step up and this is your stage and there’s the Macross right there sing to save the day ladies, it’s everything the magical girl inside me can do not to burst into rays of joy.
Want to check out more of Lin’s costumes? Right this way. And keep an eye out, because we’ll have more cosplay madness to show you before this month is over!
