Hawkguy “Great At Boats” Shirt — Now Available!

May 7, 2013
by Lin

 hawkguy_duo

Find the Hawkguy “Things I’m Great At” top here in a variety of styles and sizes!

How great are we at boats? … not very. But you might be, and who are we to say no to that. After numerous inquiries about my customs tank from Hawkeye Week, we’ve decided to make the design available online.

[WAYW] Hawkeye Week: Nice Style, Bro — Tracksuit Dracula

May 3, 2013
by Lin

Hold my pearls, bro.

And so ends our illustrious Hawkeye Week, in a wonderfully fancy mess of tracksuit and heels — a mashup between the old country and new. And how to style up such glorious gangsigns? By channeling our most favourite Kate Bishop, of course.

(Oh god, I don’t know what I’m doing. Send help.)

It’s Hawkeye Week, bro. In honour of the new story arc debuting this week, we decided to fly our purple pennants — so check back in with us every day as we class up this joint like Kate Bishop, party like Tracksuit Dracula, and make embarrassingly coordinated kitchenware like Clint Barton.

[WAYW] Hawkeye Week: Great At Boats — Clint Barton

May 2, 2013
by Lin

[WAYW] Lin – Clint Barton 03

Update: We’ve made the “Things I’m Great At” top available here!

Clint Barton isn’t great at many things, but he’s got a few skills nailed down — “I’M GREAT AT BOATS” became something of a rallying cry for my nears and dears during NYCC 2012, so I designed this tank in fond memory of. Flying a geek flag on the low-low? I’m totally profesh.

We’re channeling a full-on Hawkguy here, but with a stylin’ uptwist. We got the beanie and the smell test wifebeater and the Converse hightops — street level beat-em-ups with a blazer thrown on, and always with the purple.

Purple Blazer: Yesstyle
Asymmetric Chiffon Skirt: Forever 21
Aviator Shades, Accessories: Forever 21, Ebay, Asos
Hightops: Comme des garcons PLAY x Converse

Special thanks to Mandy for providing invaluable styling tips for this look and shirt design. She’s so street, you guys.

[COS] Hawkeye Week: Hawkeye or Bust

May 1, 2013
by White Hot Room
cos_bria_2008_hawkingbird_01 Hawkeye II

What’s even better than one Kate Bishop? Join us as we continue our celebration of Hawkeye Week by highlighting the Hawk-related costumes that Bria and Lin have done over the past few years.

On the left, we have Bria’s Hawkingbird costume which was based on Kate Bishop’s first appearance in the Young Avengers, where she cobbled together a costume from pieces left behind by former Avengers.  On the right, we have Lin’s Hawkeye II costume that Kate designed for herself, once she and the rest of the team decided to continue to be superheroes.  Basically, we live the Kate Bishop appreciation life and strive to one day have all of her costumes done between the two of us!

And as a bonus round, you can also check out Bria’s Sailor Hawkeye based upon the Sailor Avengers artwork by Ann Marcellino.

[DIY] Hawkeye Week: Aw Coffee, No

April 30, 2013
by Lin

Now you, too, can make embarrassingly coordinated kitchenware like Clint Barton.

RUDE

Wrong again, Clint.

—

You’ll need:

  • purple mugs
  • porcelain/ceramic paint
  • painter’s tape
  • paint brush

1. Wash your mugs. Follow the paint instructions for prepping the surface.

2. Use painter’s tape to create an H stencil on each mug — it’s one of the easiest letters, so it’s faster this way. Don’t forget to compensate for curvier mugs by tapering off. Make sure the tape is securely affixed.

With painter’s tape. Brushing on the paint.

3. Carefully paint inside the stencil. You might need to do a couple of coats.

4. Allow to fully dry and then peel off the tape.

5. Cure according to the paint’s instructions.

6. Dream big.

Notes:

1. Porcelain markers are also widely available if you want a quickie job.

2. Porcelain/ceramic paints are generally not food safe — just ensure that the paint is comfortably far enough from the lip of the mug. Always check the warning labels of the paint you use.

3. Having a hard time finding purple mugs? Mine are super cheap-o from here.
