[COS] Seventh Sister – Star Wars Rebels

October 3, 2016

Seventh Sister has been on my costume list since we first saw her in the very first trailer for Season 2 of Star Wars Rebels.  I loved her and her little seeker droids and how delightfully evil she is.  It only made since that she’d be my first real villain with a helmet and everything.  I was really glad that I was able to pull together Version 1 for Dragon Con and I can’t wait to start making upgrades, redo the armor, and hopefully have Version 2 ready to go sometime soon!

A huge thank you to Justin from Rich and Strange Photography for doing a quick shoot with me in a hallway in the depths of the basement and also to Jonathan Baker for a) holding my stuff/making sure I didn’t run into anything and b) taking some awesome pictures at Dragon Con 2016!

The helmet is by AtlisArmory and the rest of the costume was made by me.  The Asajj Ventress in the one picture is the awesome Miss Sinister who I absolutely loved getting to pose with!

[COS] It’s Rude to Keep a Girl Waiting – Elektra

June 13, 2016
by Bria

cos_bria_2016_elektra_01

I was already excited knowing that Elektra was going to show up in Season 2 of Daredevil but then they went and cast Elodie Yung and I was over the freaking moon.  Hell yes for another hapa actress in the MCU!  Of course, then I went and watched the show and fell completely in love with her.  This version of her costume was on my list by the end of its first episode and I desperately want the final version to happen one day.  There’s just something about the way she says “Matthew.”  And also how she kicks so much butt.

The ever amazing Justin was took pictures of me at Awesome Con 2016 and through photography magic, made a convention hall wall look totally legit and appropriate for the character.  By the way, he’s an absolute gem of a photographer and you should absolutely shoot with him if you get the chance.  This shoot put me through my paces but was totally worth it.

I just really really really loved being Elektra, guys.  <3

Dragon*Con 2013: Cosplay Schedule

August 26, 2013
by White Hot Room

Ahh, it’s that time of the year again. Come this Labour Day weekend, both your esteemed editors will be attending Dragon*Con, a convention that can only be described as a non-stop, completely ridiculous geek party. Meanwhile, we’ll be going on hiatus for the week — but be sure to follow us on Instagram and Twitter, where we’ll be updating during the convention!

We’ll be cosplaying the following, so if you see us, please feel free to say hello!

FRIDAY
Morning: Lin is wearing Wasp to the George Pérez Avengers vs JLA photoshoot — but find Bria wearing her new Star Wars costume!
Afternoon:  Bria in Miss America for the Earth’s Mightiest Heroines photoshoot; Lin in Quasar for the Marvel Cosmic photoshoot
Evening: taking it easy, with Bria back in Star Wars

SATURDAY
Morning: every day is Jaeger Con in our hearts
Afternoon: taking it to the streets with the Marvel Knights photoshoot
Evening: kicking back in SHIELD gear, as you do

SUNDAY

Morning: Bria will be on the Women and Minorities in Star Wars panel at 11am
Afternoon:  headed to the giant Marvel Universe photoshoot!
Evening: our very favourite and best SHIELD party take no prisoners

Also, please note that while we will be attending a number of photoshoots, they by no means dictate all of our free time — they are included to show where our cosplay schedule is anchored. We will definitely be doing convention panels and other activities, including some very serious partying with our amazing SCF buddies!

[COS] Hawkeye Week: Hawkeye or Bust

May 1, 2013
by White Hot Room
cos_bria_2008_hawkingbird_01 Hawkeye II

What’s even better than one Kate Bishop? Join us as we continue our celebration of Hawkeye Week by highlighting the Hawk-related costumes that Bria and Lin have done over the past few years.

On the left, we have Bria’s Hawkingbird costume which was based on Kate Bishop’s first appearance in the Young Avengers, where she cobbled together a costume from pieces left behind by former Avengers.  On the right, we have Lin’s Hawkeye II costume that Kate designed for herself, once she and the rest of the team decided to continue to be superheroes.  Basically, we live the Kate Bishop appreciation life and strive to one day have all of her costumes done between the two of us!

And as a bonus round, you can also check out Bria’s Sailor Hawkeye based upon the Sailor Avengers artwork by Ann Marcellino.

Costumes – Bria – 2012 – Sailor Hawkeye 02

—

It’s Hawkeye Week, bro. In honour of the new story arc debuting this week, we decided to fly our purple pennants — so check back in with us every day as we class up this joint like Kate Bishop, party like Tracksuit Dracula, and make embarrassingly coordinated kitchenware like Clint Barton.
