[INSPO] What Would Effie Trinket Wear?

June 23, 2014
by Bria

The costumes in the Hunger Games are incredible visual treats especially once we arrive at the Capitol.  One of the especially fun characters to watch on screen is Effie Trinket.  From that first bright fuchsia dress to that pale pink brocade one to the one entirely covered in freaking butterflies, she never wears anything boring.

There’s a chance that the fashions of our world might not be able to keep up with Effie.  She’s one of the few who would might have to tone down her style for our world.  Let’s think of these more like ‘inspired by’ looks.

We’ll start with very three dimension dress by Alexandre Vauthier.

Next up, there’s this Zac Posen with a gorgeous fabric that would be right up her alley.

She’d totally adore this Chanel!

[INSPO] UXF Week: What Would Cluster Wear?

January 28, 2014
by Bria

Uncanny X-Force week continues as we ask ourselves one of our favorite questions: What Would Cluster Wear?  The colour palette here was obvious and simple: white and black.  And, for the first time on White Hot Room, there’s also a limited number of designers involved: Proenza Schouler, Prabal Gurung, Oscar de la Renta, and Chanel (because there must be at least one French designer involved, no?)

We’ll start off with this look by Proenza Schouler.

Chanel seems to have this outerwear category locked up.

[INSPO] What Would Mirax Terrik Wear?

October 21, 2013
by Bria

When we weren’t paying attention, we accidentally started a ‘Capable Ladies of Star Wars’ edition of our What Would X Wear feature.  Honestly, we just trip into these things.  Anyways, when we put out a call for character suggestions last month, my fellow Tosche Station writer Nanci suggested that I do some for the Capable Ladies of the Expanded Universe and so it just seemed natural that Mirax Terrik would be the subject of today’s post.

The daughter of a smuggler and a capable entrepreneur in her own rights, Mirax Terrik kicks some butt in multiple arenas.  She also knows how to dress for the occasion and pull off a slinky dress with the best of them.  In other words, she has a pretty excellent wardrobe somewhere aboard the Pulsar Skate.

We’ll start relatively casual yet oh so chic with this outfit by Carolina Herrera.

What you really need to know though is that she can definitely rock a fabulous gown for the right occasion.  Like these two dresses by Alexandre Vautheir and Versace.  (Just try and tell me that Mirax doesn’t have great legs.)

There’s something about Mirax that says she’d rock a good jumpsuit just like this Jason Wu one.

[INSPO] What Would Monet St. Croix Wear?

October 11, 2013
by Bria

WWAC Banner

Welcome to our second post that we’re contributing to the cool feature that the lovely ladies over at Women Write About Comics are putting on.  They’re running an ongoing series on Race, Gender, and Comics and we absolutely recommend that you go check it out!  It’s great and it’s, well, obviously something we care about a lot.

After a bit of a cosplay filled break, we’re sliding back into our staple What Would X Wear? feature and taking a look at the HBIC herself, Monet St. Croix!  Unlike most of the characters we focus this sort of post on, Monet is one of those who could actually afford these sorts of looks.  So some of these might definitely be a lot more likely to end up in her closet than others.  While she’s definitely a girl who’s fine with putting on a t-shirt and some leather pants, that’s not nearly as fun to play with for a WWXW and we know she can rock a super fab outfit when the mood strikes.

We’ll start off with this plunging neckline jumpsuit by Elie Tahari.

Oh wait.  You wanted to see more jumpsuit like looks that Monet would look fab in?  Christian Dior and Chanel are okay with that.

Colour blocking on a leather dress?  Yeah, she’d be all over this Elie Tahari dress.

[INSPO] What Would House Tyrell Wear?

August 21, 2013
by Bria

Us?  Impatiently tapping our feet while we wait for it to be April so we can have a new season of Game of Thrones?  And tragically lamenting the wait for The Winds of Winter?  It’d be pointless to lie and say that we weren’t.  That means that it’s time for another post where we ask what would one of the noble houses wear from our high fashion lines if they were a part of this universe.

This week, we’re taking a look at House Tyrell and especially at the Queen herself, Margaery Tyrell.  Therefore, there’s going to be a lot of Tyrell green along with some Margaery blue and plunging necklines.

We’ll start with a simple green dress by Zac Posen

This next dress by Valentino is something that I could see a younger Margaery being attracted to especially given the colour.

And of course, what would a fashion post be for one of the most powerful houses in Westeros without a little Elie Saab in their signature colour?
