Look, sometimes an outfit is just begging to be put together. And hey, I won’t even lie. Today’s outfit is all about the dress because I’m 99% sure that one of the designers at Express is secretly a huge fan of X-Factor and Monet St. Croix. Could it be anymore of a fashionable translation of her current uniform?
Dress: Express
Black Heels: Ralph Lauren
Black Sunglasses: Coach
Purse: A local Italian shop
Bracelet: Nine West
Have you read Peter David’s X-Factor? No? Go read it. Right now. It is wonderful as is my fabulous bitchy diva Monet who gets a pretty big role in the book.
Apparently we like to play favourites around here so the White Queen herself, Emma Frost, is the subject of another fashion inspiration post as we once again ask ‘What Would Emma Frost Wear?’
The answer seemed to jump right out at us from the Resort 2014 collection of designer Zuhair Murad. The Lebanese fashion designer opened his collection with ten different looks, all in white. While our favorite HBIC has been wearing a lot of black lately in the pages of Uncanny X-men, it’s only a matter of time before she returns to her trademarked white clothes and takes a nice long vacation in some fancy resort town to try and ignore that the Avengers are still trying to arrest her.
We’ll start off a somewhat simple dress with interesting side detailings and sleeves that could easily make this dress appealing to the former White Queen.
Emma’s never been one to shy away from a smartly cut pair of trousers (just look at her Gen X teaching days) and so both of these looks could be right up her alley, especially the one on the right if she’s teaching or has business matters to attend to.

Summer’s just kicking along like a hot little number, and even I need to angrily rip off all my blacks once in a while. It really only took this super rad Han & Chewie tee from Forever 21‘s latest geek outreach program, though, so four for you, Forever 21, four for you.
Star Wars and I are still not on good talking terms, though.
Just so we’re clear.
This is only residual good feeling that Anakin Solo still carries for me.
Don’t look at me like that.

There’s a little game coming out in August that you might’ve heard of called Saints Row 4. To say that I am excited would be an understatement. From the minute Heather of Zhobot showed me some of Saints Row 3 and the first trailer and promotional image hit the web, I was hooked. I might be slightly less than stellar at actually playing the game (okay, my driving skills could use some work) but it’s fun, it’s completely out there, the characters are neat, and I’m always down for a game where your playable character is completely customizable. Anyways, the plot of the new game is that you are the President of the United States and OH LOOK ALIENS INVADED. Given how we (myself and the Zhobot duo) live near DC, a photoshoot day just had to happen.
I was instantly drawn to Asha from just the promotional art where we didn’t even know her name. When we eventually learned that she’s an MI6 Agent and their special liasion to the CIA, I was pretty much already in love. I can’t wait to play through the game and get to know her better and then (probably and eventually) work on more costumes!

Thank you so much to our wonderful friend Denis for braving the wretched heat (and tourists) and making the trek into Washington DC with us to be our photographer!
And don’t forget to check out some more of the shoot over at Zhobot.net including some nifty portraits from SR4!
We took advantage of as much of the city as we could before the heat won and took pictures on the National Mall in view of the Capitol Building and the Washington Monument, inside the Natural History Museum, and even a few on the Metro. We’re hoping to go back in the fall and take pictures near more Washington DC landmarks! (more…)
In awesome news, Leia Organa is finally getting to be the focus of her very own Star Wars Expanded Universe! Empire and Rebellion: Razor’s Edge is being released this September and is aaaaaall about her. If that wasn’t exciting enough, the cover definitely would’ve gotten me excited. Finally, she’s not shown wearing one of her film costumes and she’s wearing something that’s totally functional for a Rebel Alliance operative.
I could probably talk all day about the costume alone but this is a geek fashion blog so let’s drive right into the fashion because who wouldn’t want to talk about what sort of high fashion looks Star Wars characters might wear if they were in our world?
Bouchra Jarrar’s Fall 2013 Couture Collection featured plenty of fabulously tailored trousers plus some interestingly cut tops to go with them and the traditional evening wear. It was the tops/trouser combination that caught my attention though since many of the looks read like high fashion versions of Leia’s look on the Razor’s Edge cover to the right.
Even though Leia is technically just wearing a tunic, it wouldn’t be hard to imagine her wearing either one of these tops below. The black leather vest could easily be swapped for that top and looks all around badass while the white jacket keeps the interest of the zippers while adding sleeves with a somewhat reinforced look on the shoulders.
