[DIY] Hawkeye Week: Aw Coffee, No

April 30, 2013
by Lin

Now you, too, can make embarrassingly coordinated kitchenware like Clint Barton.

RUDE

Wrong again, Clint.

You’ll need:

  • purple mugs
  • porcelain/ceramic paint
  • painter’s tape
  • paint brush

1. Wash your mugs. Follow the paint instructions for prepping the surface.

2. Use painter’s tape to create an H stencil on each mug — it’s one of the easiest letters, so it’s faster this way. Don’t forget to compensate for curvier mugs by tapering off. Make sure the tape is securely affixed.

With painter’s tape. Brushing on the paint.

3. Carefully paint inside the stencil. You might need to do a couple of coats.

4. Allow to fully dry and then peel off the tape.

5. Cure according to the paint’s instructions.

6. Dream big.

Notes:

1. Porcelain markers are also widely available if you want a quickie job.

2. Porcelain/ceramic paints are generally not food safe — just ensure that the paint is comfortably far enough from the lip of the mug. Always check the warning labels of the paint you use.

3. Having a hard time finding purple mugs? Mine are super cheap-o from here.

It’s Hawkeye Week, bro. In honour of the new story arc debuting this week, we decided to fly our purple pennants — so check back in with us every day as we class up this joint like Kate Bishop, party like Tracksuit Dracula, and make embarrassingly coordinated kitchenware like Clint Barton.

[WAYW] Hawkeye Week: Hawkgal’s Gotta Hawk – Kate Bishop

April 29, 2013
by Bria

No one Hawks like a Hawkeye and so today’s outfit, as you might have guessed, is 100% inspired by my favorite Hawkeye (sorry Clint), Kate Bishop!  I fell head over heels in love with her from the minute she saved the Young Avengers’ spandex butts in that church.  It’s my actual life goal to be as cool as she is.  Hashtag Still Not Hawkeye

I took my style cues from David Aja’s art hence the lavender and the aviators and traded my pumps for some sensible boots that are suited for kicking some tracksuit ass.

Lavender Top: BCBG
Black Shorts: Express
Tights: Betsy Johnson
Combat Boots: Macys
Earrings: Express
Aviators: Kenneth Cole

Pee Ess: Don’t be hating on the compound bow.  This baby and I have spent a lot of years together and she’s never let me down.  Arm and finger guards aren’t actually a part of the outfit.  I just valued my forearm not being in pain in case I had a sloppy bow string release.

It’s Hawkeye Week, bro.

hawkeye

Welcome to Hawkeye Week.

In honour of the new story arc debuting this week, we decided to fly our purple pennants — a week in celebration of Matt Fraction and David Aja’s gentle maiden title onto her new voyage. (Spoilers: Clint Barton is the gentle maiden.) What can we say: we love what we like, and we just really, really like Hawkeye.

So get in the car, loser, we’re gonna class up this joint like Kate Bishop, party like Tracksuit Dracula, and make embarrassingly coordinated kitchenware like Clint Barton.

TUESDAY — [DIY] Aw Coffee, No

[WAYW] Welcome to Excalibur – Captain Britain

April 26, 2013
by Bria

wayw_bria_britain_01

We bat for Team Braddock here at White Hot Room and love all of our Captains so this post was bound to happen.  After Lin did her time during the Marvel NOW launch posts, I figured that it was my turn to take a ride on the douchebag train and what better way to do that than wear a giant flag t-shirt?  It’s okay though, I tried to tone it down with the blazer and the hair ribbon.  Yeah, I’m not sure if the ribbon helped or not either.  Anyways, this was a fun outfit to do!  Gotta show some love for Brian Braddock and the rest of the Excaliber and British crew!

Blazer: Tommy Hilfiger
British Flag Shirt: London Street Vendor
White Skirt: Zara
Navy Heels:

New Her Universe Dresses Coming Soon!

April 25, 2013
by Bria

As if we needed another reason to love Her Universe, Ashley Eckstein tweeted pictures of three new Star Wars dresses today!  The one on the left is the pilot/Rogue Squadron dress that she teased several months ago and wow is it adorable!  We bat for Team Pilot here at White Hot Room so we are definitely putting this on our ‘to buy’ list!  (Just try and stop me from wearing it with my Wraith Squadron jacket!)   On the right are two dresses for Hot Topic in super adorable Star Wars prints that will be “available soon”.

While you join us in impatiently waiting for these to launch, you can always check out the Her Universe Online Shop!
