We’re clearly Team Fire Nation here at White Hot Room so it was only a matter of time before we put together an inspo post for our favourite Avatar kids. The Fire Nation has such great colours to draw inspiration from too. Red! Gold! Black! Oh wait, that’s also a list of some our favourite colours. No wonder we’re doing this post.
Let’s start with this Strapless Ombre Bandage Dress from Herve Leger and this Sheath Dress from BCBG. I’m betting Azula goes for the ombre and Mai goes for the colour blocked. They’re just such sharp dresses.

Ty Lee, however, would totally go for something way more fun and a bit out of the box like this cute dress from Desigual. Mai probably went shopping with her and convinced her that black was not a bad colour.
I could absolutely see one of the Fire Nation ladies rocking this Gold Bandage Top from Herve Leger beneath a red jacket or blazer. (We vote blazer.)
These next two Baroque dresses from Karen Millen and River Island absolutely give off a little bit of subtle Fire Nation flare. Azula’s royal hair ornament would go perfectly with both!

If Azula’s going to be the Fire Lord then she obviously needs a chic power suit. It’s all about the gold, darlings.

It probably gets cold in the Fire Nation occasionally, right? Or maybe Mai just needs a fabulous coat to keep her warm while she’s bored stiff in the Earth Kingdom colony. The fabric invokes the embers of a dying fire.
And of course, what’s a fashion inspo post without a little couture? Play us out, Elie Saab and Marchesa!

Naughty or nice? That’s totally your personal business, man. But whenever our nearest and dearest come around with the eternal question of What Would You Like For Christmas? well, nobody can accuse us of being unprepared. Especially when it comes to geek flavoured fashion and dressing like a superhero on the low-low.
(We took some of our cues from Hawkeye, Ms Marvel and Dazzler. Of course.)
We love what we like. And if you’re coming up short for stylin’ gift-giving ideas at the last minute, we have you covered.

Shaking your head at 90’s fashion dictates? Comic book editorials wouldn’t know a Lita if it hit them in the face while they vamp danced in da club. But we know. Oh, we know. As east coast ladies of best repute, we can spot a cali asian at fifty paces. Miss Jubilee, you may have landed with the X-Men in San Fran, but your fashion heart was always sooo L.A. And that’s all the inspo I need.

Welcome to Cosplay Tuesday! Every week we feature one of our costumes and talk a little more in-depth about it. This week we’ll be turning the spotlight on Bria’s Amy Pond from the Doctor Who episode The Wedding of River Song.
—
Some costumes are all about the huge amount of effort you put into them but others are about how much fun you have wearing them. And, of course, the lessons you learn about gluing things to your face.
Amy Pond was the very first companion costume I ever did and I’m thrilled that I decided to go for it. In the past, I’ve usually shied away from doing any of the Doctor’s companions because I’ve felt that I’ve never really been a good fit for any of them and because I also don’t have same dedication to finding ‘screen accurate’ clothes that some television costumers have. However, this costume just seemed like it would be a great fit especially because I positively adored Amy in this episode.
The costume itself was actually pretty simple especially since I already had the suit in my closet. From there it was just a matter of borrowing a wig, getting the eyepatches, and accidentally ordering the world’s dinkiest toy machine gun. Honestly, it was a total accident but I didn’t have time to send it back and look for another. Everyone just told me ‘Oh, pose dynamically, it’ll be okay!’ which may or may not explain why I looked like a mixture between being crazy and incredibly intense when I pretended to shoot Silence off screen.
Of course, the other thing that really makes a costume great is the company you keep. I originally made the decision to do this costume while having lunch with my friend who immediately said “Oh well I’ll do River then!” and thus the eyepatch brigade was born. A couple of months later, we came up with the brilliant idea to get her boyfriend to be Rory. (Awkward sure but you can’t deny he looks the part!) We also were able to meet up with a friend of ours who had an Eyepatch Eleventh Doctor costume!
We did, however, discover one thing: gluing an plastic eyepatch to your face with eyelash glue is a very bad idea. We have all now learned our lesson and will never to it again. We are, however, very thankful to our friends who helped us avoid running into walls for the most part given our poor depth perception and our varying levels of blindness.
At the end of the day, it was a really fun costume to wear and we definitely saved the world from the Silence. You’re welcome, world.

Last night’s episode of Project Runway featured an androgynous challenge where the designers had to come up with looks for both a male and female model. As one might expect, there was a nice broad spectrum of ‘success’ and ‘failure’. When designers fail at this sort of challenge, they really fail. (Emilio, on the other hand, basically created runway magic but more on that below.) The biggest take away of the night, however, was how last night’s runway was basically a fashion show meant for the Glitterati. The Glitterati, aka twins Jaryn and Kerith, are two playable characters in the popular Xbox game ‘Dance Central’ and wear some pretty outrageous outfits that also read totally fabulous on them.
Even though Casanova ended up in the bottom three, I instantly sat up and shouted ‘GLITTERATI!’ the moment his looks appeared on the runway. Sure Casanova’s looks might not have embodied androgyny but the construction was flawless and absolutely everything about them read Glitterati from the cutouts to the strange bits around the girl’s knees.

And now we get to Emilio and his two FABULOUS looks. I don’t think there was any doubt that he absolutely deserved to win this challenge because WOW. The collar on the guy’s look is incredibly reminiscent of Kerith’s Haute Blooded look from Dance Central 3. These might not be the best outfits to dance in but I could definitely see the twins rocking these while drinking wine. Especially with the hats.

Uli’s garments also gave me a bit of a Glitterati vibe mostly because of the leggings. I’m pretty sure that both Jaryn and Kerith are already plotting how to steal these from the workroom. Of course, if they’re already going through the effort, they might as well go for the tops too. I personally loved the girl’s top without the jacket. It’s just a great piece. Both looks read as a high fashion mixture of their Crew outfits and the Street Style outfits.
