As you may have noticed, we’ve been slowly aggregating the various costume efforts of our past years for your viewing pleasure. (And also to document the rise and fall of our wasted free time…) So we’re happy to announce that the Costumes section is up and running! You’ll find our respective galleries nestled within, as well as convention schedules and future cosplay plans.
Highlights include:
Bria’s Gallery:
Ronin (Maya Lopez) from New Avengers, Mara Jade Skywalker and Mai from Avatar: The Last Airbender!
Lin’s Gallery:
Wasp from Avengers, Quasar (Phyla-Vell) from Guardians of the Galaxy, and Leah from Journey Into Mystery!
And of course, there’s our beloved Sailor Hawkeye and Sailor Black Widow, and our shared enthusiasm for Miss Braddock as reflected in our cover pictures — just click either of them to get to our respective galleries!

We’ll also be featuring some of our costumes occasionally, and you’ll see some of our favourites make their way to our tumblr! And stay tuned as we start to get our heads back into the game for Katsucon 2013…
So if you hadn’t heard by now, The Walt Disney Company bought Lucasfilm and therefore owns Star Wars. The internet basically exploded for the hour after the announcement. But now that the dust is slowly starting to settle down, everyone’s starting to ask a few more questions and wonder what this means for the Star Wars universe as a whole. If you are interested, our friends over at Tosche Station are doing a live podcast to discuss their take on things. However, I wanted to take a few minutes to share my own thoughts and feelings about this news.

A lot of us were doing a very good impression of this gif. There were tears and screaming and jumping up and down. Truly, Troy speaks for all of us.

Now that I’ve had time to think about it, I’ve determined that I have mixed feelings. Don’t get me wrong. I think this is a good thing but I have a few reservations in regards to some of the information I’ve heard but let’s start with the good things first.

If you haven’t seen Megarinri’s inspired fashion sketches on tumblr, then you have definitely been missing out! Today’s outfit is based upon her Robin design. I’ve been wanting to put this outfit together ever since I first saw the sketch and today was the day! I may not be the biggest DC fan but I’ve always been fond of the various Robins and so doing an outfit inspired by them just felt right especially since it definitely gives off a Young Justice!Robin vibe.

So check it out, somebody’s got neptune hair. And what better way to show it off than to… put it into a bun so nobody can see it?? Alternately, just channel oceanic royalty by putting wings on your feet, showing some skin, and flirting with ALL THE BLONDES.
For those keeping score at home, this is good ol’ retro king of the sea. I like to think we are all brothers and sisters of the booty short clan.

Warning! There are absolutely spoilers in this post for the Project Runway Season 10 finale!
.
.
.
Project Runway finished up its tenth season on Thursday, and boy did this finale actually leave me grinning from ear to ear because my favourites tend to have really bad luck when it comes to crowning the winner. Dmitry Sholokhov was crowned the newest Project Runway champion and wow did a fair number of his designs read superhero chic to me! (Although I would totally love to see the show do a challenge where the designers have to make designs that are actually inspired by superhero costumes.)
Tell me that this dress doesn’t scream ‘THOR’ at you. It’s chic, adorably asymmetrical, and that silver fabric looks fabulous. It could have come off as looking cheap or costume-y but Dmitry totally made it work.
White leather? Architectural designs? Yep, these both definitely made me think that Emma Frost might be looking to put these pieces in her closet, especially the jacket. For those who watch the show, you probably recall Dmitry’s winning look for the print challenge. No one does cutouts like he does, especially because he manages to do them without making the design verge on tasteless.
I loved this design as well. It read Black Widow to me, or at least it’s something that I could totally see Natasha rocking.
Although this light green colour is rather different from the usual shade associated with Polaris, this dress could definitely work for Lorna. The metal sleeves even give off hints of her powers of magnetism. The colour! The neckline! The side cutouts! Get in my closet now please!
This final looks gives off a Black Cat vibe to me. While the black and white colour scheme is the most obvious connection, the embellishment on the top gives the impression of a v-neckline while the blouse itself is see-through. The layered sleeves also are reminiscent of her costume’s trademarked fur accents.

These are only a few of the designs from his winning final collection, but you can check out the rest of the collection and the other designs he made throughout the show on the official Project Runway site.
